What you need to know about the benefits of RIC mini hearing aids

In the recent European and American hearing aid markets, a new high-tech product known as the RIC “mini” hearing aid is all the rage and has become the fastest growing new hearing aid category in terms of demand. From cartridges, behind-the-ear (BTE) and in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids to “mini” hearing aids (RIC), this is probably one of the most revolutionary innovations in the history of hearing aids.

Features of the RIC mini hearing aid

1. Concealed, small and beautiful.

Compared with conventional hearing aids, “mini” hearing aids are more concealed, compact and beautiful because the receiver is separated from the body, making the size of the hearing aid greatly reduced, usually only one-half the size of the traditional behind-the-ear hearing aids.

2. High-frequency enhancement: improve speech clarity

The in-the-ear receiver option preserves part of the ear canal resonance effect and improves high-frequency gain as an ideal result of open fitting. The ear canal residual resonance response is typically between 2000-3000Hz —- a frequency range important for speech understanding. In this region, the RIC requires less gain to reach the desired sound pressure level in the ear canal, which is a significant improvement in speech intelligibility in the presence of background noise.

3.Reduced ear plugging effect, more comfortable to wear.

In addition to improving high-frequency amplification, another major advantage of in-ear receiver technology is the reduction of the plugging effect. The plugging effect is an abnormal increase in the sound pressure level at low frequencies in the ear canal, which is usually described as a “muffled, echoing, uncomfortable” sound, and even causes dizziness and vertigo, making patients so annoyed that some people give up wearing hearing aids.

4. Smooth frequency response, more natural sound quality

Sound quality has a direct relationship with frequency response. The coupling system of the in-ear receiver optimizes the smooth response and extends its high frequency amplification response.
